Serving the Lord Until His Return

Calvary Baptist Church is pastored by Bro. Jim Miers. We are a Bible preaching, Bible believing church, that preaches the inspired Word of God.

THIS PAGE IS NOW INACTIVE DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST.  THE PAGE IS AVERAGING ONLY 1.1 READERS A DAY, AND IT HAS BEEN EVEN WORSE LATELY WITH ONLY 10 READERS IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, AND RECENTLY THERE WERE NO READERS FOR 4 OR 5 DAYS IN A ROW.

IT IS A FACEBOOK WORLD, AND THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH READERS OF THE CHURCH WEBSITE TO KEEP IT ACTIVE.

THE CHURCH MEMBERS APPROVED THE CLOSING DOWN OF THE WEBSITE, AND NONE EXPRESSED ANY INTEREST IN KEEPING IT ACTIVE AT THE BUSINESS MEETING LAST NIGHT.

THE PAGE WILL REMAIN OPEN, BUT NOTHING NEW WILL BE  POSTED. READERS ARE WELCOME TO USE THE LINKS ON THE RIGHT TO GO TO CHRISTIAN WEBSITES.

WAS HOPING THAT AFTER OVER 2 AND A HALF YEARS, THAT MORE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS PAGE, BUT IT JUST WASN’T HAPPENING

Calling all Volunteers for our October 26, 2019 Nativity Workday. We will start at 8 a.m. we will be serving Coffee & Donuts or Donut holes. We will be cleaning out the shed to gather all props and decorations. This is to get an idea of what we need done before the Live Nativity Event coming in December. Watch for future workdays ahead. Looking forward to seeing you there.

POSSIBLE CLOSING OF WEBSITE

Thinking of closing the Calvary Baptist Church website.. There have been only 955 views in 1,067 days for an average of 1.1 views per day, since it started on February 24, 2017.

I realize it is a Facebook world now, and that church websites don’t get the activity, of a Facebook church page.

The main advantage of a church website is that it is easier to find information, and the type is much larger for those, who have problems reading the small Facebook type.

I might bring this up at the next business meeting, to see if it worth keeping the church website open.

Will consider any feedback, whether it is positive or negative.

Thank you,
Andrew

Calvary Baptist Church has a College And Career class meeting at 9:30 each Sunday morning.

Joyce Whiddon is teaching the class, which is for those, who are too old for high school age class, and not old enough for an older adult class.

We want to thank Joyce for her help in starting this class, and we need to pray for her and those who attend this class.

College students who are home for the weekend are welcome to attend the class.

Thank you to all that attended the fish fry and rope braiding on Sunday afternoon.

A special thanks goes to the men, who prepared the fish, hush puppies, french fries, and onion rings.

Another special thanks goes to all who participated in the rope braiding, which was a resounding success, with 77 ropes made to be included in the Christmas gift boxes for the Operation Christmas Child project.

Thank you also to all those who brought side dishes and desserts. And thank you to all who worked in the kitchen.

Thank you also to those who assisted in the cleanup after the dinner.

It was a time of fellowship and fun for all who attended.

LifeWay Bookstores Closing in 2019

LifeWay is closing all 170 bookstores before the end of 2019. Some of us are old enough to remember when they were called the Baptist Bookstore.

Although the physical bookstores are closing their online presence will enable churches, to buy their literature and supplies online only.

D. James Kennedy Has Theological Term For Those

That Think There Are Many Ways To Salvation

A television preacher, the late D. James Kennedy who is not a Baptist, but made a good point, when he mentioned that  many people believe there are many ways to salvation. He said there is a theological term for that belief – Hogwash – which he said was translated from the Greek.

AUDIO SERMONS TO LISTEN TO

Sermonaudio.com has 1,239,000 sermons to listen to and the sermons can be found on the left sidebar, by choosing Local Church Finder with Beckwith Baptist and Green Oak Baptist being the only local churches with sermons at the website.

Some of other choices when looking for sermons to listen to:

SERMONS BY BIBLE

SERMONS BY TOPIC

SERMONS BY SPEAKER

SERMONS BY DATE

Some of the sermons can also be watched, since they are also in video format.

Sermons by Speaker has 3,114 sermons and/or devotionals by C.H. Spurgeon, and includes sermons by Billy Sunday, D.L. Moody and George Whitefield from the past.

However, there are very few sermons by television evangelists of today, with John MacArthur being the most prominent speaker, among the current television preachers with 2,723 sermons available for listening.

There are many sermons preached on some verses in the Bible. I watched a preacher last Sunday on Sermon Audio who preached 48 minutes on two verses.

The site also has an extensive list of recent Christian related news stories.

Spurgeon Gems Website Features First Sermon By Charles Spurgeon

Charles H. Spurgeon died 58 years ago in 1892, but his sermons are still being read and heard 125 years later. That is one good use of the internet, since most people wouldn’t have access to all of his sermons otherwise. The website spurgeongems.org has the text of  3,563 sermons by Spurgeon with the first sermon being given in 1855 at the age of 21. The website includes 5 pages of audio sermons by Spurgeon. His 5,103 volume library was sold to William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, which incidentally was where my mom and dad met back in the 1930’s. William Jewell bought the collection for $2,500 in 1906. 100 years later exactly the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary bought the collection for $400,000.

This is the first sermon given by Spurgeon in 1855:
